Stephen Price (b. 1995, Palermo, Italy) is an Italian / Ghanaian artist based in Birmingham, UK.
Stephen is a figurative mixed media artist who works with charcoal, oil, acrylic, and soft pastel to explore Black identity, histories, and lived experience through the lens of memory and the human condition, presenting the Black body within imagined, dreamlike landscapes. Emerging from both imagination and sourced photographic imagery, his compositions are further informed by art history, literature, film, and music. These influences help shape the emotional atmosphere of each work. Rooted in psychological reflection and close observation, Stephen constructs environments that exist between interior and exterior worlds. These spaces are emotional terrains, suspended between reality and memory, where restorative solitude, tenderness, and vulnerability can unfold. He builds layered surfaces where materials interact and collide. Thick, gestural brushstrokes merge with soft, velvety passages of darkness, shaping fictional Black figures who appear both grounded and surreal. The physicality of paint becomes a language in itself, carrying weight, fragility, and presence.
